About Me

Hey everyone! I’m Julianne (or Jewel), and I am a licensed midwife here in the state of Idaho. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Midwifery from Midwives College of Utah, where I am currently an educator and instructor for a few different classes. I live with my family in beautiful Boise, ID and my family consists of my two sweet sons, my fiancé, and our two German shorthaired pointers! We love it here in the PNW because there is so much opportunity to be outdoors in nature. I love that there is ample opportunity to support and enhance the community through midwifery here in the Treasure Valley. I am proud to be able to offer a specialized online home birth education course, Hello, Home Birth! for expectant families to prepare themselves for the duration of their pregnancy and/or postpartum months, as well as education and counseling on the importance of environmental toxins, optimal nutrition during pregnancy, holistic health, & all things home birth. I am also so passionate about herbal medicine, so you can always catch me in the kitchen crafting some herbal goodness up! Lastly, I am the owner and creator of Descended Traditions, an Ayurvedic postpartum meal service serving nourishing and ancestral centered meals to new families in and around the Boise, ID communities.

My journey to midwifery began with the first of my two pregnancies. Although I was young and completely unaware of the physiological birth process, my journey into motherhood with my first son shaped my future through learning about what birth simply SHOULDN'T be. My hospital birth experience was less than ideal and I knew that moving forward with any future pregnancies would require further education and investigation into something other than being in the hospital. Five years and an endless amount of research later, I had the dream home birth that every woman deserves.

Over the last 3 years I have worked in 2 different clinical home birth practices and with numerous community birth midwives in the Treasure Valley. I have established wonderful relationships with many birth workers and allopathic practitioners in the community and these clinical experiences have given me the opportunity to learn how impactful midwifery care can be. I am grateful and excited to be a part of this beautiful community.

Philosophy of Care: For the majority of my life, I have been the one in my group of friends who has constantly swam against the current. I conduct my life differently than most around me regarding everything from diet and nutrition to healthcare. We all have different religious views and have raised our families with different beliefs. Regardless, we continue to gather together and lean on each other in times of need. We are all human beings with one thing in common. We agree that we all love and respect each other no matter what decisions we make or how we have decided to live our lives and raise our children. The same will go for me in this part of my life. I plan on continuing to honor other people and their choices regarding their lives and their children. At the end of the day, I will only be a chapter in their book of life, and I will be there to provide support, encouragement and love as much as I can to help influence the positivity in their lives moving forward. I am passionate about midwifery for many reasons, but most of all, I am passionate about being someone who can help, empower and educate expectant mothers. I want expecting families to remember me not only for the service I provide them in a vulnerable time or the knowledge they gain, but for the experience they have. I believe that the experience in these situations are so important because leaving someone feeling empowered and liberated can be the first step to empowering the rest of the women in this world.
